Unit 6 synchronised with the grid again after a short shut-down

Šoštanj, 9 May 2022 – This morning, Unit 6 of Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ) was synchronised with the Slovenian electricity grid again after it underwent a scheduled shut-down on 26 April 2022. During the shut-down, the uninterrupted electricity supply of the Republic of Slovenia and of thermal energy for Šalek Valley was ensured by Unit 5 and the gas units.

During the brief shut-down, planned maintenance work was performed by approximately 180 employees of TEŠ and 190 external partners.

TEŠ produces as many as a third of total electricity produced in Slovenia. In 2021, it produced 3,166 GWh, of which Unit 6 alone produced 2,507 GWh. 343 GWh of thermal energy was also produced last year. This year, up to and including yesterday, TEŠ produced 1,236 Gwh of electricity, of which Unit 6 alone produced 1,010 GWh. The electricity produced by TEŠ in the first quarter of 2022 represents more than 40% of the produced electricity delivered to the transmission network of the Slovenian power system (50% represented by Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NEK) taken into account). 170 GWh of thermal energy was also produced in that period, of which Unit 6 alone produced 122 GWh.
