THE COMPANY DRAVSKE ELEKTRARNE MARIBOR IS CARRYING OUT A PILOT PROJECT FOR A GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANT

Dravske elektrarne Maribor, a company within the HSE Group, is carrying out a pilot project that is mainly based on using a completely novel way of producing electrical power through the application of a geothermal gravitational heat pipe (Slovenian patent SI 23618 A). What is special about a geothermal gravitational heat pipe is its use in a closed circulation of refrigerant, which only requires one dry well for operation. An existing but abandoned well Pg-8 in Čentiba in Lendava will be used. The said 50 kWe pilot geothermal power plant will be able to provide 400 MWhe per year of energy production.

The project is funded through the EEA Financial Mechanism in the amount of EUR 622,600.00, while the corresponding Slovenian participation amounts to EUR 109.800.00, and the participation of the company Dravske elektrarne Maribor amounts to EUR 167,637.28.
