The Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ), a company of the HSE Group, has proven to be a key, reliable and indispensable producer of electricity during the current aggravated situation in the European electricity markets. In the first two months of 2022, units 5 and 6 of the TEŠ produced a combined 606 GWh of electricity, which represents almost 40% of the total electricity produced in Slovenia in this period. The operational reliability of Unit 6 was high during this period and comparable to that of last year.
As the difference between the price of electricity in the wholesale market and the price of emission coupons for the next few years of supply has increased significantly, the economic conditions for the production of electricity from TEŠ have also improved. Matjaž Eberlinc, the executive director of production at HSE, noted that: “The production of electricity from the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant, as well as that of our other production facilities, will be constantly adapted to the conditions on the energy markets. Our primary goal remains to ensure undisrupted production, and thus provide the country with a reliable supply of electricity and heat, which has so far been fully met.”
As the HSE Group is aware how important it is to operate and produce electricity and heat for the Republic of Slovenia without disruption, stricter cyber security measures have also been adopted to protect the business processes and key facilities of the HSE Group.
