RECORD MONTHLY PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY BY THE HSE GROUP

The hydro power plants of the HSE Group, which operate under the auspices of the companies Dravske Elektrarne Maribor and Soške Elektrarne Nova Gorica, and the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ), which uses coal from the Premogovnik Velenje coal mine for the production of electricity and heating, attained a monthly record in October 2020 with 995 GWh of electricity produced. This is the largest monthly production in the history of the HSE group, the largest producer and trader in electricity in Slovenia.

The production of electricity in October represents an almost 50% higher level than was planned and 13% of the annual production in the HSE Group. This record production is attributed to the favourable hydrological conditions, a highly accessible production infrastructure and favourable market conditions.

Despite the aggravated circumstances brought by the coronavirus epidemic, October was a very active and successful month for the HSE Group. Not only did the power plants of the HSE Group record the highest daily quantity of electricity produced in the history of HSE (36.7 GWh) for that month, but the concession contract was also signed for the exploitation of the water power potential of the central Sava River. Furthermore, the application for co-financing the setting up of the Prapretno Solar Power Plant project has been submitted, while on 29 October 2020, four Slovenian companies (Plinovodi, ELES, Holding Slovenske Elektrarne and Hidroelektrarne na Spodnji Savi), which have joined their know-how, experience and perspectives on the upcoming energy transition, submitted to the Innovation Fund a joint application regarding the SLOP2G project.

“The listed projects represent concrete steps towards energy transition with an emphasis on a zero-carbon society. The HSE Group, which is today already the largest producer of electricity from renewable sources in Slovenia, thus remains oriented towards sustainable development and its related environmental responsibility”, adds Stojan Nikolić, chief executive officer of HSE.
