On Tuesday, 28 May 2024, the partners of the City-to-City Exchange visited HSE EDT, a company that is part of the HSE Group. In this exchange project between cities within the European Urban Initiative (EUI), the Municipality of Trbovlje cooperates with the cities of São Pedro da Cova in Portugal and Mieres in Spain. The visit was also attended by two representatives of the European Commission from the Energy Department in the field of technical assistance for projects, who have been on a working visit to RDA Zasavje.

The representatives of HSE EDT presented the history and development of the energy sector and the plans for the future The guests visited the Prapretno Solar Power Plant situated on a recultivated and closed section of the Prapretno non-hazardous waste deposit site, which is a good example of revitalising a degraded area in accordance with the EU guidelines for reducing the country’s carbon footprint. They also reviewed the facilities of the shut-down thermal power plant and the highest chimney in Europe.

A representative of the Jožef Stefan Institute was also present for the visit. He showcased the findings of the local energy plan of the Municipality of Trbovlje, which provides starting points for the planning of a new cogeneration unit at the location of the former Trbovlje Thermal Power Plant.
