The 2023 annual report for the HSE Group and company was published today on the HSE website. We still proudly remember one of the most successful years in the history of the HSE Group, even though we have entered the second half of 2024.
The HSE Group performed excellently in all key segments in 2023. Our power plants produced 6,581 GWh of electricity, which is 10% more than planned. We made good use of the favourable conditions on the European energy markets to sell our own production and trade, as well as the favourable natural conditions, while at the same time successfully managing production at the Velenje Coal Mine. The group’s EBITDA reached a record high in 2023, amounting to EUR 643 million, which is EUR 143 million more than planned. The HSE Group ended 2023 with a net profit of EUR 391 million, which is EUR 123 million more than planned. The excellent performance in 2023 enabled the HSE Group to earmark a significant part of its funds for humanitarian causes, especially to the post-flood reconstruction of Slovenia.
As dr. Tomaž Štokelj, the chief executive officer of HSE, and Uroš Podobnik, the chief operating officer of HSE, said in the letter from the management board, the good performance is the result of optimisation, continuous improvement of business processes and good risk management related to the production and sale of electricity. They also noted that 2023 was dedicated to restructuring the vision of the HSE Group, which is the responsible spearhead of the green transition and a pillar of reliable supply, and pointed out a series of projects of the HSE Group that will accelerate this transition. These include new products and solutions for our electricity customers.
“The successful operation of any company is always the sum of several factors: bold plans, an ambitious and committed team, the support of the owner and the willingness of all other stakeholders to listen and cooperate. We thank you all for helping us make 2023 a year to be remembered for excellent results and good deeds. We believe that all this paved the way to an (even) better energy future for Slovenia,” they concluded in the letter.
