Monday, 7 May 2018 is the date of the beginning of the first regular overhaul of Unit no. 6 of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant. The overhaul shall be ongoing for approximately two months, until 2 July 2018, as planned. The given time shall be used to perform all major works on the Unit. In the meantime, the safe and reliable electricity and thermal energy supply will be provided by Unit 4 TEŠ.
Because of the planned warranty works, Unit 6 TEŠ shall be disconnected from the grid a couple of days before the beginning of the overhaul, specifically on 1 May 2018. During 5 and 7 May 2018, Unit 6 will be put into operation for a short time again to perform pre-overhaul tests that are necessary to determine further activities during overhauling. From 7 May 2018 onwards, the Unit will be disconnected from the power grid for 2 months, there will also be major overhaul works and other warranty repairs done within the framework of this regular overhaul. Due to the state of the art equipment and perfected technology, the next regular overhaul of Unit 6 is planned to take place as late as 2022, which is four years ahead, while the old TEŠ Units needed to be overhauled every three years.
Unit 6 TEŠ annually produces approximately a third of the electrical energy of the whole Slovenian production. Since the beginning of trial production, i.e. from 19 June 2015, it has produced 9,700 GWh of electric energy, with more than 1,000 GWh of energy this year alone. Unit 6 achieved the highest daily production, an amount of 12.6 GWh, on 13 June 2017, with the average daily production in the first three months of this year amounting to 9 GWh, as planned.
Details concerning the overhaul of Unit 6 and the ecological upgrade of Unit 5 that is currently underway shall be introduced at the press conference at the beginning of June.
