A BRIEF SHUTDOWN OF UNIT 6 PLANNED AFTER A RECORD UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION

Tomorrow, 27 April 2024, Unit 6 of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ) is scheduled for a shutdown. Regular maintenance work or so-called unit care will be performed during the shutdown, which is anticipated to last until 6 May 2024.

Until today, the TEŠ has produced 1,051 GWh of electricity this year, of which Unit 6 accounted for 1,039 GWh. In addition, the plant also generated 123 GWh of thermal energy for the Šalek Valley during this period, with Unit 6 alone accounting for 119 GWh.

During the shutdown of Unit 6, the production of electricity for the needs of the Slovenian power network and thermal energy for the Šalek Valley will be secured with the operation of Unit 5 and gas-powered units.

By the time of this shutdown, Unit 6 will have operated continuously for 116 days. This is a record run as no unit in TEŠ history has operated for such a long time without interruption. It should also be mentioned that as early as 21 April 2024, the TEŠ reached 1,000 GWh of electricity production, a feat attained in 2023 only on 14 June.
