2022 ANNUAL REPORT: WE TOOK THE PATH OF THE GREEN TRANSITION

The 2022 annual report for the HSE group and company was published today on the HSE website. Tomaž Štokelj, the chief executive officer of HSE, and Uroš Podobnik, the chief operating officer of HSE, say in a letter from the management that the company has carried out a series of high-profile energy projects. “We are especially proud of those who irreversibly pave the way to the carbon-free future of Slovenia,” they note, and add that, despite the extraordinary circumstances, the HSE Group has been the largest producer of electricity in Slovenia for twenty one years in a row and the largest producer of electricity from renewable sources. This accounts for 49% of the entire production portfolio of the HSE Group, while on the national level the group produced more than two-thirds of all “green” electricity: from the Drava, Soča and Sava rivers and from solar energy. HSE has also become a leading partner in the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley project: “The HSE Group has significantly reduced its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the past decade. Last year’s CO2 emissions were as much as a fifth lower than in 2021, mainly due to the situation in the Velenje Coal Mine and the resulting lower production in the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ). We are also successfully reducing the emissions of other gases – in the last decade we have significantly reduced emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), by 75%, thereby contributing to making the environment in the Šalek Valley significantly cleaner.”

The HSE Group was also expanded in 2022, as it became the majority, 51% owner of Energija Plus on 1 June, making it the 14th company in the group in Slovenia. It contributes to the HSE Group mainly with its long-standing experience in the supply of electricity and other energy products in the retail market and its portfolio of loyal customers. Both of our retail companies are important from the aspect of the development of competitive energy services and products for businesses and households.

The business, market and project results are, as always, the results of the team that stands behind them. “Without professional and dedicated employees, without a demanding owner who expects nothing less than excellence from us, without business partners who are the very core of our existence, without all the key stakeholders who are involved in our operations in one way or another, the word power from our slogan – power of energy – would merely be a dead letter. It is thus the sum of the power of all of you. Without your contribution, we would not be what we are: the largest energy group in Slovenia, which paves the country’s way towards a carbon-free future,” Tomaž Štokelj and Uroš Podobnik concluded.
