Borut Meh, General Manager of HSE (CV)

Borut Meh, born on 24th September 1953, completed his university education as an economist. The beginning of his work experience goes back to the year 1977, when he started out as a trainee in the Era Velenje trading company. By 1988, he had worked up his way to become the deputy director of the company's commerce and business department. From 1988 to 1998, he continued his career as a member of the finance management team in the company Gorenje d.d., where he also tackled the financial issues in the most difficult years for the company. When Meh left the company, Gorenje was at an extremely high financial and developmental level. Until 1999, he was the authorized representative of the management of Nova Ljubljanska banka d.d. and also performed the function of the deputy chairman of the management of Slovenske železarne d.d., in charge of the financial consolidation of the group, the introduction of standard accounting reports, as well as the establishment of a controlling system.

At the invitation of the then chairmen of both the management and the supervisory boards, Borut Meh joined the Petrol d.d. team who, at the time, were about to form the company strategy for the transition from an oil company to a general energy company. Meh covered several business sectors outside the oil business and began, among other things, to develop the gas activity, motorway catering services, and energy engineering. He further developed the petroleum products retail network in the countries of the Western Balkans, but prematurely terminated his mandate with Petrol after being offered the challenging position of a crisis manager with Mura d.d. After his recruitment in 2002, his team introduced measures to rationalize operations, increase productivity and improve internal relations. His strategy - based on a reduction of the number of employees, the promotion of sales of Mura products, and active inclusion in public procurement – proved to be successful. Furthermore, he developed a culture of social dialogue with the trade union. Although he was offered a new mandate after his mandate had expired, he chose to leave the company.

From September 2007 to January 2009, Borut Meh was the chairman of the management of Prevent Global d.d. He was entrusted to form the strategy of the group, to set and implement the company’s policy and to coordinate the business functions and the companies of the group. Borut Meh devoted special attention to the fulfillment of the quality system and the related stimulation of innovative activities. In the last six months of his mandate, he was also in charge of the financial sector of the group. Under his leadership, the Prevent company was awarded the golden prize for the best digital business innovation of 2008 in Slovenia (Naj e-podjetje 2008). From February to September 2009, he continued his career as the chief executive of the group Nova kreditna banka Maribor d.d.

Since 15th September 2009, Borut Meh has been the General Manager of HSE (Holding Slovenske elektrarne d.o.o.) – the largest Slovenian electricity producer and trader. In addition, he is also the chairman of the Association of Employers of Slovenia, a member of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia as well as the leader of the Interest Group of Employers and a member of the management board of the Managers’ Association of Slovenia. Until 2010, he holds a mandate as one of the vice-presidents of BusinessEurope – the largest employers association in the Union. Furthermore, he is the supervisory board chairman of AD Plastik in Split, a supervisory board member of Slovenske železnice d.o.o. and chairman of its supervisory board audit committee.

In his professional life, Borut Meh has published many articles in the Slovenian business press and in specialized magazines. Throughout his career as a member of the top management, Borut Meh has consistently demonstrated his outstanding organizational and leadership abilities, as well as his awareness for the significance of team work and social dialogue.
